It’s in a book

July 29th, 2005

What do I wanna accomplish in five years?

Well, I wrote a novel during NaNoWriMo 2003, see. It’s the longest piece of work I’ve ever completed. I was proud for several months afterward.

Last summer, my high school friend/former roommate did an edit. And I was supposed to rewrite.

It’s now almost two years since I wrote the thing… no rewrite.

So, in the next five years, I would like to shape this novel into a readable work of fiction, and publish it. It could be CafePress, for all I care. I just want it to be a real book )

I decided to feed you

July 29th, 2005

well not exactly feed you, but give you a gret Greek recipe to try )

Here it goes

Spanakopita (spinach pie )

INGREDIENTS

Serves 6 persons
* 1 kg spinach
* 3 eggs
* 150 gr olive oil
* 250 gr feta cheese
* pepper, salt
* a bunch of fresh onions
* a bunch of dill
* a bunch of parsley

For the dough

Check the traditional filo dough recipe for the ingredients

METHOD

Prepare the dough like in the traditional filo dough recipe
Wash the spinach very carefully to remove soil and chop it in very small pieces. Squize to remove its liquid, salt it and place it into a large bowl. Grate the feta cheese. Wash and chop the dill, the fresh onions and the parsley. Beat the eggs and add them together with the grated feta cheese, the parsley, the dill and the fresh onions into the bowl. Add salt and pepper as desired and work the mixture with your hands. Try to mix all ingredients well. Oil a baking pan. Seperate dough in two balls. Flatten each ball with a thin rolling pin on a floured pastry board and roll out to make two sheets of filo (one for the base and one for the top). Place the first sheet in the baking pan and oil it. The sheet should come up above the top of the pan. Spread the mixture on top of the first sheet and fold over the bottom filo sheet. Place the second sheet on top. Oil it and slice off any parts of the sheets that have remained. Score the top sheet with a knife into squares. Bake for an hour in 180 C – 200 C.

ENJOY !!

How to paint a cat.

July 29th, 2005

Yesterday afternoon I had the opertunity to paint the ceiling in one of the upstairs bedrooms in this lovely parsonage. In doing so I discovered some amazing things.

1: 10 week old kittens do not know the difference between white latex paint in a paint tray, and milk in a shallow dish. — I had to lock the cats out of the room while I painted. Imagine the scene. [rolling paint roller across ceiling] MEOWWWW. [pause with more rolling], MEEEEEOOOOOOOOWWWWWW. I love my cats!
2: It is a “bad idea[tm]” to wash out the paint rollers / tray in the bathtub in the presence of a cat who is not afraid of water. Stitch, the 1yr/old all black glossy cat decided to *jump in the bathtub* while I was washing everything. I suppose this wouldn’t be that big a deal, except for the fact that the bathtub doesn’t drain…

My cat likes playing in water. He spashed me with paint-water before realizing that it wasn’t just water at which point he freaked, and ran out of the bathroom leaving little cat-paw-marks on the nice hardwood floors. when I finally caught up with him my black cat had white legs up to his knees. Now imagine me having the joy of washing him off (I didn’t like the idea of cat licking latex paint of his legs…)

All in all a whole lot more work than I ever expected.

Kevin (what up yo?)
