early birthday

so i had an early birthday celebration today. and actually… i get the privilege to celebrate my birthday several times in the next week or two. and even though i will be celebrating my 27th birthday while in washington DC.. i will still be spending it with [extended] family: the torbits!. (and the funny thing is that this will be the second birthday that i spent with the torbits… since i had the chance to celebrate my 25th birthday with them!) but today everyone at the office gathered for some cheesecake for mine and shawn’s birthday. i remember when i didn’t like cheesecake growing up.. but it turns out that i love it now.
anyways. they got me this great card. it makes me smile 
(so of course i had to scan it in and share it with you all. )

ahh. what a great concert! i absolutely love when a band utilizes all their resources to create a full audio/visual statement! it makes me wish i knew icelandic though. (although it was close enough to danish that i was able to understand them saying “we have one more song” and “thanks for the evening”. heh)
someday i will go to iceland.

i am really liking the dresden dolls lately. (i must say.. i actually laughed out loud when i listened to the lyrics of the jeep song… and i had my headphones on.. so other people looked at me kinda funny)

OH MY! my heart just jumped out of my chest a moment ago. i must blog this…. 
let me tell you a little background though first…
so in the past couple of months i have found some really great new music.. and many of “new” bands (at least in my mind) have quickly found a place near the top of my ‘favorite artists’ list. and one of them would be this wonderful band from iceland… sigur rós. well one day while driving to work.. i saw on the big blinky sign at the riverside that sigur rós was going to be coming there may 10th! excited about the news i checked the webpage as soon as i got to work… and learned that tickets were $30… and that i couldn’t get any tickets close to the stage. so i gave up. i’m not paying $30 for sitting underneath a balcony.
so i accepted the fact that i wouldn’t get to see sigur rós in concert. and i moved on.
fast forward to a day not too long ago.. at the lunch room here at work. i’m looking at the shepherd express and see an ad about winning tickets to upcoming concerts at the riverside… yep.. sigur rós was one of those. “go online and enter to win tickets.”
i instantly went to my computer and entered to win.
“i never win these things” i thought.. but hey.. it didn’t cost anything to sign up. what could i lose?
well long story slightly shorter… i just got an email from the shepherd express… I WON TWO TICKETS TO THE SHOW! *does the churning butter dance*
ok. i’m done now. thanks for listening/reading my excitement.

Yes, I write soley because I can and soley because the word soley isn’ really a word, but I like it a lot.
God is very, super awesome (again, bad English) and my semester is over. I can’t be happier.
And I simply want to say, YAY!
…because I can.
ps. happy cinco de mayo! staff lunch today at the office and we get Tijuana Flats (great Mexican). I am in heaven (sort of, but not really)!

(ok. so i wrote this long post.. and then i quit the browser and forgot that i had written it.. and lost the whole thing. w00t. so here goes my second attempt at a post. *grumbles*)
i think i’ve been burning the candle at both ends… a little too much. but the tricky thing is that in evaluating all this ‘stuff’ that i’ve been filling up my life with.. and i wouldn’t trade any of it for.. well.. rest. it seems weird. but the things that have been wearing me out… have also been my fuel in life. go fig.
so here’s a bit of an update.
yesterday i worked. but i ended up leaving in a bit of a rush… fearing that i would get to church late. (well… not church itself.. but the rehearsal beforehand.. since i played the drums with the worship team last night) then after packing up my drums.. i went back to work… and didn’t leave the office till after 11:30pm. (and let me tell you.. the office building feels a little creepy that late at night. )
then this morning.. i went to work for a couple hours in the morning, and then head down to chicago just before lunch to have a meeting with sunitha and some other global missions people about the two events that i will be working for: the international guests program and the global mission event. i’m so geeked about these two events. not only do i get to go to texas and massachusetts on the church’s dime… but i get to work with sunitha. speaking of sunitha.. can i just say how much of a blessing sunitha is to me? it was great… we sat outside in the sun and chatted about life and everything that life brings for… oh.. a good while after all our ‘business’ meeting stuff. she is so wise… so knowledgeable about people and culture… a peaceful and loving atmosphere just seeps from her being… and she is just simply a beautiful person.. inside and out. everyone needs a sunitha in their life.
oh and while i’m thinking about chicago and everything.. i’ve actually taken lots of pictures from my last two trips down to chicago. (and the funny thing is that three out of the last 6 days i have gone down to chicago.) i have reorganized picturequeen.com and uploaded all my latest pictures on there. go check them out.
anyways.. i think it’s time to go do something away from the computer.
