Like you, I was personally looking at iPod clock radios with far less functionality around the same price point when I discovered chumby. Besides all the great widgets and information, now I get a digital photo viewer included along with my iPod functionality. Gotta love the chumby!

I find I use my chumby's weather channel widget just about the most, especially living in Chicago where we're getting hit my numerous snowstorms. My wife and I also like the Screen Clean widget a lot, and Chuck Norris Facts are always good, not to mention the news sources...

Have you tried out the Mediafly option in the Music sources of the beta control panel? (I work for MF, for disclosure.) Mediafly brings informational channels that customize based upon one's listening habits...or you can personalize your channels yourself a la carte, finding content (podcast format) on virtually any subject at www.mediafly.com. The self-customization is still in Alpha, but let us know what you think. Instructions for this are at http://mediafly.typepad.com/cvconant_tech_insights/2008/01/personalize-the.html
Enjoy your chumby!

[...] everymoment.org :: v2.0 wrote an interesting post today on chumby - a review… finally! Here’s a quick excerpt so now that i’ve had my chumby for a while now, i’m finally getting the chance to write a review about it, so here goes nothing first off, let me explain a little bit about the concept of the chumby. the official chumby website explains it as “your personal internet player. there’s always something good on.” but i didn’t really understand what that meant at first either. basically it looks like an oversized hackie sack, with wi-fi, speakers, usb ports, a touch screen and a motion sensor bui [...]
