wow. i love macs even more now…

October 27th, 2007

so i just upgraded both of my computers to leopard and i must say… i’m impressed. more-so than i even expected to be. i was having some weird issues with my g5 tower before.. so i decided to do a “clean install” and erase everything on the computer when i installed the new OS. i have a backup of all my files elsewhere, so i figured this would be easy. the only thing that would take a while would be re-installing all my programs… but i figured that would be an easy task to do this weekend (tedious, but easy) so i install leopard on my laptop.. and that takes around an hour and a half. so when i left my g5 tower install overnight while i was sleeping. then today i start installing my programs…. and i think “hey.. i have all these programs already on my laptop.. i wonder if i can just drag them over the network” so it try it. and sure enough. it works. crazy! and then i’m playing around with the syncing on both my macs… and suddenly all my settings are remembered. wow. i was thinking that the re-setup of this machine would be a good day and half project… but apple and all their crazy perfectionism made my life insanely easy. so now i can get work done instead of installing and setting things up. oh. and this “spaces” thing is stinkin’ incredible! i remember there was a program that came out years ago that did a very similar thing (something like ‘multiple desktops’) .. but it slowed down my machine so much that i ended up uninstalling it after only a week of using it. spaces is SO nice.. and then there’s the “share screen” feature that they took from the remote desktop app. (where you can take over another computer’s screen if they are on the same network and you have the username and password for that computer) gosh. i really haven’t found anything that apple forgot!

off to work in imovie (and don’t get me started on how cool and easy that

Perfect Hideout download

program is to use.. that’s a whole other blog entry. -) )

dear apple, inc.

October 19th, 2007

first off, thanks for all your great products. i seem to have this obsession with collecting them. -)

secondly, thanks for having discussion boards on your support website. otherwise i would have not realized that the 1.1.1 software update for my iphone was from a “bad batch” and was causing my phone to 1) overheat and 2) have an exponentially worse battery life than before.

third. please, please, PLEASE have future releases of the iphone software support:

  • caller/contact groups (like in address book), which can be set to a certain ringtone.
  • voice activated calling (my bluetooth headset is collecting dust)
  • allow my phone to learn my email address and stop DEactivating my “R” key when i try to type “thisroad” (thistoad.org is not my email address please have my phone stop making me type that and then go back and correct it. thanks)
  • bluetooth file transfer
  • and please allow me to turn off that annoying “would you like to delete this video to conserve space” message after i watch any video on my iphone…

sincerely,
-tracy

iMacs, dotMac and iLife… oh my!

apple does it again… i’m even more proud to be a mac user after the new upgrades announced today. (if you aren’t nerdy like me and had four different browser windows open following the story… go here and get all caught up on the sweet-apple-goodness)

:-D !!!

woot-offs and other such nerdiness

July 19th, 2007

any other woot-addicts will already know that there’s a woot-off going on right now. well i recently got one of my coworkers hooked on woot.com as well… and it definitely makes woot-offs much more fun.. when we both have a ‘DO NOT WANT’ reaction at the same time in different cubicles. -) we did come up with a great idea… every day should be a woot-off. we would all lose our minds and every single penny that we earn…. but it still would be fun. -)

for lunch i battled some crazy construction traffic to get a sandwich from jimmy johns. i’m sad that their delivery radius misses my work location by about 8 blocks. i may stake out an address where i can drive to and see if they’ll deliver to my car. that’d be interesting trying to explain that. “uhh. i’m in little red car at this address” hmm.. that could be fun…. kinda like when we had a pizza delivered to a boat.

i’m also really excited about this “working” playlist i made the other day. it’s filled with girlyman, ani difranco, and joss stone If I Didn’t Care movie download . good stuff i tell ya.

ok. i’m gonna go work, and wait for this next w00t item.

*gets her F5 key all ready…*

the chinese leftovers that lasted FOREVER.

July 12th, 2007

so on sunday i ordered some chinese food. since i ordered it for delivery… i needed a minimum $10 order. so i got one regular entrée, and a lunch special. even after tip, this totaled less than $20. i ate lunch and dinner at home.. then i took the leftovers here to work. well… i’ve been eating these leftovers for breakfast, lunch and even dinner most days… and i JUST finished the last of these leftovers… yes. for lunch on thursday

. now THAT is a money saving series of meals! -)

in other news. i just got an invite for skitch and i can’t wait to get home and download this new mac program. right now it is by invite only… so that makes this even more exciting for me.

alright. i’ve still got some time on my lunch break… i think i’m going to go outside. (or maybe i’ll just drive around and find an open wireless network and send pictures from my iphone… -P )

twitter and pownce

July 6th, 2007

for those of you non-internet nerds… this post will be completely in a foreign language. -) even i didn’t know about twitter and pownce until fairly recently. but now i’ve become addicted to both. and if you scroll all the way down my blog (at everymoment.org, for all of you reading from my crosspostings elsewhere), you’ll see a cool little “twitter badge” at the bottom of my page. it’s like blogging for ADHD people. you’re limited to a short post, but you can post from pretty much anywhere. (you can download programs for your desktop, update from the web, or via email.. or even text message) and then they add the ‘social networking’ part into things.. and you can keep track of as many other people’s ‘tweets’ via one of the aforementioned medias. pownce is a similar idea… but it’s like twitter on steroids.

someone noted how this “younger generation” always needs to be “plugged in”… and that’s really true.. at least for me. i’m excited now that i have my iphone, that i can check my email or post to my blog anywhere and everywhere… i guess it’s a pretty interesting phenomenon though. before people had to walk to where you were and talk to you… then we had horses bringing written mail to people who were far away… and trains… and this amazing little “box” where you could hear the person in the earpiece… and they could hear you if they had the same device… then those crazy little “telephones” got more popular… smaller… and lost the wires… oh yea.. and add the internet into this mix… and look where we are today. technology really does change how we communicate, learn and live. not good. not bad. just different.
