drummer chick

November 7th, 2009

i realized i uploaded this video, and was going to add it to my websites, but only got as far as uploading the video to youtube. 🙂 this video is a collection of raw video from milwaukee’s pridefest 2009. this is me playing drums on the main stage with emily white. the video was captured by the official pridefest video-girl, and my good friend, the very talented jessica janiuk. 🙂

it was so much fun to play with these guys! and believe it or not, this was the first time all three of us had played together. ever. 🙂 but anyways, go check out emily white’s music and buy a million of her CDs. 🙂

you know how they say that good always comes out of the bad?

well this weekend, at a great barcamp milwaukee 4, my camera decided to exceed it’s “shutter life” and die a horrible – yet rhythmical – death.

and out of my camera’s death, came this song and video by @Pezzettino. (the rhythm you hear is actually my camera recorded into garage band. 🙂 )

i didn’t think these places existed anymore. hah! but at least they have free wired internet… and they have a little ethernet cable in the room. (and i can’t tell you how i excited i was when i found that let me tell you.) but our first day of DC performances is done with, and it went much better than i even expected. we actually had never had the chance to COMPLETELY go through the program together.. so we weren’t even sure if the whole show would fit the 50 minute time slot that we had. -) but it actually worked out really well. and despite the really crazy audio/video issues that i was having last minute, the video and audio actually worked out really well. also, somehow even though we didn’t get any sleep, had enough energy to make it though both performances. (me and michele had a gig last night that went until 10pm, then we had to pack up all the sound equipment, unload that.. and then pack… then we were picked up by a “shuttle” to drive us to chicago midway airport at 2:40 in the morning.)

anyways, for all you people in DC.. come see one of our free shows tomorrow at the national museum of the american indian at noon or 3:30pm (more info here). today’s shows went great.. tomorrow will probably be even better. -)

sending out a message

i realize that i’ve been “silent” on my blog lately.. and just posting pictures. some people would say that i was ignoring my blog. i actually see it as a different way of blogging. i tend to think using pictures and colors more than words… so i guess it’s very fitting for me to be blogging pictures of my life.

but since not everyone thinks the same way… i’ll still chime in with a text blog. -)

i’ve actually not been in the mood for sitting down to write lately. it almost seems as if this “anti-writing” mood is in direct relation to my “ultra-design/artsy inspired” times… and that my brain doesn’t have the energy to multi-task in “communication methods” or something. -) but either way… i’ve really been getting a lot done during my artsy-fartsy inspiration-spurt. i’ve come up with a couple tshirt designs… a website design… and hopefully this will continue this weekend and i’ll get a book cover designed and some other website stuff done too. i’ve also been having lots of fun re-installing all my programs on my new computer -) and right now.. i have my new laptop hooked up to my 30″ monitor and my surround sound stereo… and have been going crazy with my design stuff. -) i love it!

and while i design.. i always listen to music. and i just have to express my re-found love for melissa etheridge’s music. and especially this song (and the video is AWESOME. you must watch.) i love it so much i bought the video off of itunes today. anyways.. watch this.. it will make you happy. trust me -)

on that note.. i’m going to go to bed. (or maybe i’ll watch the video again.. and then go to bed. -) )

$100 per seat?!

i’m sad right now. michele and i wanted SO desperately to see queen latifah’s upcoming jazz tour… and the presale started today at 10am. so i logged on RIGHT away…. selected two tickets… and *poof* $220. TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY DOLLARS FOR TWO TICKETS TO A CONCERT?! how can anyone get away with that? i don’t understand! how can the everyday “fan” afford to drop $100 on a concert ticket? and how long is a concert? usually around 2 hours. i’m sorry.. but if i’m paying someone over $50/hour they better change the oil in my car, align my front end tires, mow my lawn, water my plants, clean my house, cook for me, give me a massage, straighten my back, buy me three weeks of groceries, do my laundry (and fold it) AND entertain me.

and this is in a big auditorium… so lets put this in perspective. i’m sure there’s over a thousand seats in this place.. but lets just hypothetically say that there’s 1,000 seats. $100 per ticket. that’s $100,000. i’m a musician and i make an average of $35 for the same amount of work.

anyways. i guess the point i’m trying to make is that there’s something horribly wrong with this world when someone can charge $100 for a ticket to a single show. especially when most of this person’s fan base can’t afford that. (myself included)

*sigh*

i almost forgot it was monday

so this morning, i wake up and i was so confused as to what day it was. why was my alarm going off so early? wasn’t it sunday today? nope. monday. gosh. i could have used another “weekend” day.. but no such luck.

but it was a good weekend. i’m definitely not complaining. but i don’t feel very “rested” after such a busy weekend. it was a fun weekend though. friday i met one of my old high school friends for dinner/coffee/conversation/etc. at alterra on 1st street. that was fun.. and we closed the place. it’s always interesting at that particular alterra.. since all the workers seem to be annoyed that you are a customer and taking up their time. i kinda wonder how they all have that same sort of attitude and people still go and spend money there. although.. that might explain why that alterra is always so much more empty than all the other alterra’s with the cheerful and customer service driven employees. *shrugs* but that’s just my hunch. -)

anyways. then on saturday, it was a good hour workout at le club… then some rest time… then a gig at the envoy. that gig went really awesome! we were probably the loudest we’ve ever been (because the bar was full of very noisy people.) but it was way fun! we did get a lot of compliments after that gig… maybe because there were so many drunk people there.. but whatever. -P

sunday morning brought church.. and then a quick committee meeting afterwards. boy i was exhausted after having a gig the night before that ran so late.. but it’s all good.. i got to take a little nap after church. then yesterday evening, me and michele went to the sunset playhouse to see the musical “footloose.” our friend david was playing in the pit.. and it was pretty awesome. but we almost didn’t get in the show. see… this was the last performance… and we didn’t know that it was sold out… and we didn’t have tickets beforehand. so we walked up to the ticket counter and the lady informed us “i’m sorry.. the show is sold out”.. so we text messaged our friend dave… but he was probably already in the “pit” so he couldn’t have done anything anyways. so we sat outside for a bit…. and watched all the people walk in with their pre-ordered tickets. right when the show was about to start.. we decided to head inside again and see if there were any tickets that no one picked up. and the girl at the ticket booth was all excited.. “someone returned tickets! i was hoping that you guys didn’t leave!” so not only did they have two seats still available.. but they were on the isle.. and actually pretty good seats! and i’m glad we did.. it was a good show.

and that brings us to today. and i should go eat some lunch now. *waves*

and suddenly…. it’s raining

first off… happy thursday everyone! -) sorry i haven’t had many words to share with you… but pictures are worth a 1,000 words.. right? so maybe i’ve actually been flooding you with words? *pause* well… whatever.

anyways. i’m sitting here at work… just finished a chicken patty and cottage cheese breakfast (breakfast of champions, i tell ya!) … it’s raining outside. and i just found out that our beloved food critic for the journal sentinel, dennis getto, passed away. and for those of you here in milwaukee who listen to 88nine – radio milwaukee, (and even those who don’t listen yet… but should -) ) there’s a contest going on for an iphone. so go donate some money to that fabulous radio station and enter your name to win an iphone. it’s today only.. so better hurry. -)

ok. and now since i’ve been typing this.. it sounds like the rain has stopped. but it still feels like a ‘lazy-sleepy’ type day. i sure hope the weather clears up this evening, for the “holy bratfest” at my church tonight.

anyways. gotta get back to work. i’m sure i’ll be swamped with new stuff next week (since one of our fellow designers is leaving *sad face*) so i need to get ahead of my work this week so i’m not found crying in the corner next week. -) *waves*

photo hunters: tiny

this week’s photo hunters theme is “tiny.” so here’s one of the tiniest things i’ve spent $80 on… my ipod shuffle! it’s so tiny.. i’ve already lost it once (in a pocket of my jacket… i only found it when it fell out of the pocket at a restaurant) but it is nice to have such a tiny little mp3 player for when i work out. i just clip it to my shirt.. and i don’t even know it’s there. -)
